The Forby Animal Foundation was established in 2005 to honor the memory of a true advocate for pets.
Owner Ron Horton’s dear aunt, Sarah Forby, dedicated her time, assets and undying love for pets throughout her 80 years.
A small woman with a big heart, Sarah Forby was a pet lover, pure and simple.
Having no formal training or financial backing, she cared for any and all animals that crossed her path. Knowing that anything, no matter how small, could make a difference in their precarious lives. She knew the joy of a puppy, the loyalty of a mutt and heartbreak of the loss of a friend.
Ron was born in Illinois and raised by his mother, grandmother, and Aunt. His grandmother shared her passion for cooking with him, sparking a lifelong love of good food, while his aunt inspired his deep affection for animals.
A man of simple wisdom, Ron often shared his favorite saying: “Never pay interest.”
His Grandmother told him this when he was 8 years old.
Ron was the proud owner of The Original Pancake House on Camelback for more than 35 years. He cherished his customers, often taking time to sit and talk with them. Over the years, those friendships grew into lasting bonds, and his patrons became like family.
Beyond his work, Ron’s heart belonged to animals—especially dogs. His love for them continues through The Forby Animal Foundation, which supports animals and local rescues throughout the valley.
My name is Nicole Kleinschmidt, and I’m honored to serve as Director of the Forby Animal Foundation. With a lifelong love for animals, I’ve fostered and saved many rescues, including my own.
The Pet Food Wagon, an arm of our foundation, helps families feed their pets during times of crisis—something I’ve personally experienced. I’m deeply committed to supporting animals and the people who love them when they need it most.
